Value of College

Everyone has a different reason to attend college, and many of us have a strong personal desire for learning. With more education, people will become more confident, and will have better chance to obtaining a great career. For me, I am viewing college education as a great investment. In today’s tough labor market, a college degree dramatically boosts the odds of finding a job and making more money. On average, the benefits of a four-year college degree are equivalent to an investment that returns 15.2 percent per year. This is more than double the average return to stock market investments since 1950, and more than five times the returns to corporate bonds, gold, long-term government bonds, or home ownership. From any investment perspective, college is a great deal (Flexo). I also want to go to college because the key to success is education. College education is a requirement in many professions. I have made a huge mistake by did not attend college sooner. After nine years of servicing in the NAVY, I decided going back to school and pursuing a higher degree. I am pursuing bachelor degree in Criminal Justice. I am hoping to land a perfect career with Homeland Security in near future. This is my dream.

The experience of going to college is much different from high school. For many of new students, this will be the first time away from their home and family, and begin their new independent lives. At same time, this will be a great opportunity to meet new people and experience new things. This is a part of grown up and a part of become responsible adult. With college experiences, it will help me to prepare my future.

When my daughter was born in August 2009, when the first time I saw my daughter in the hospital’s delivery room, I have made a very clear decision in my mind. I want her to have a wonderful childhood and a bright future. I want to be a good father and make her proud....
