Process & Outcome Evaluations

A Process Evaluation is used to record and keep track of an agencies plan and how they aim to implement the proposed project. They aim to, “(a) describe program interventions’ development, implementation, and activities, (b) provide quantitative and qualitative data on services delivered and their effectiveness, and (c) document the appropriateness and acceptability of the program within the target community. To achieve these aims, there are three main components of the process evaluation: (a) program planning and development, (b) program interventions, and (c) database management system” (Yuen & Terao, 2003, p. 102).

The Outcome Evaluation are based of the project’s ecological systems social constructionist theoretical orientations and focuses on individuals, the families you work with, their peers, and schools. It will provide a better understanding of how effective the programs are and how they can be replicated to work in other areas (Yuen & Terao, 2003, p. 102).

An Example of a process evaluation might be school teachers and how well they performed with children with special needs, and were they trained so that they could serve all the children in the schools system. Another example might be want to focus on goals to increase and implement physical activity, nutrition, and health of Homes for the ageing. You would base your questions for the process evaluation on how you will implement services that will increase these activities and how you will monitor those processes. Some examples of an outcome evaluation might be the number of people who are receiving services within the home for the aging and how has their health improved. Where you able to keep the residents from hospital stays due to falls or not getting adequate amounts of nutrition.
