1. How do customers judge the quality of a supermarket?

Every customer has different perspectives about supermarkets. They judge its quality based on their own wants and necessities. They see how the supermarkets provide their needs and wants. Availability and the quality of products, the location, the size, the placement of goods, the quality of customer service, the price of the product and the layout of the store.

The location of a business specially a supermarket is a very vital factor for its growth. It makes or breaks a business. In Wegmans’ produce department, they use a “farm to market” system whereby local growers deliver their produce directly to stores, bypassing the main warehouse. The location of the stores must be considered and should be not far away from the customers and the local growers as well to avoid inefficiency while the assurance of quality of the products is present. It makes the business productive.

e.) Inventory management

Another important factor that will help the business to succeed is the Inventory management. In Wegmans, the department managers receive a periodic report on inventory to help them in their decisions. The inventory should always be sufficient- not too much and not too little. This will avoid the cost of excess inventory and the lost sales of the shortage of inventory which may also lead to dissatisfaction of customers.

3. What are some of the ways Wegmans uses technology to gain an edge over its competition?

Wegmans store some of the products vacuum sealed thus, preserving it longer as well as maintaining the quality.
