Training consists of an organization’s planned efforts to help employees acquire job-related knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors, with the goal of applying these on the job (Noe et al, 2009). In order for training to be effective organizations need to utilize training through instructional design – a process of systematically developing training to meet specified needs (Noe et al, 2009). There are many ways organizations can choose to carry out this process but one is by using LMS – a learning management system.

LMS – Learning Management System is a computer application that automates the administration, development, and delivery of training programs (Noe et al, 2009). LMSs can be used to identify training needs, can make training programs more widely available, track course enrollments and program completion, and can be linked to an organization’s performance management system to plan for and manage training needs, training outcomes, and associated rewards together (Noe et al, 2009).

Many people agree that training is the big reason why Wegmans’ stands out a great deal and continues to allow them to appear in the Fortune’s list of 100 best companies year after year. Wegmans’ believe that with proper training it can change the beliefs, attitudes, values and structure of its organization which will allow them to better adapt to the rapidly changing era in today’s market.

Measure Success

Measuring success is extremely important it will allow an organization to know if whether or not the training had good results or if other alternatives need to be developed. It is more important that organizations develop a way to measure the success when the program is being developed. Along with designing course objectives and content, the planner should identify how to measure achievement of objectives (Noe et al, 2009).
