Course Goals: This course introduces you to two major areas of the study of economics: a set of

fundamental principles that are used throughout the field of economics and a more focused study of the behavior of an aggregate economic system. The latter field is called macroeconomics. Macroeconomics deals with several major themes: theories that attempt to explain how the economy as a whole behaves as a market-driven system, the effects of various institutions such as the government and the banking system, and the evidence we have to support our theories of macro behavior. Macroeconomics is concerned with the determination of economic aggregates such as the unemployment rate, the overall price level, inflation, aggregate income, consumption, investment and international trade.
