CENTRALISED MEDICAL DATABASE

Background

Developing reliable and affordable healthcare service has become increasingly complex and difficult these days. The shifting demographics of the population, along with the ever-changing landscape of the medical industry has made managing healthcare a huge challenge for many countries, including Singapore. As South Asia’s medical hub, Singapore is given the role of the coxswain to thread through these unknown waters. We are certain that adoption of information technology will bring us a valuable ally as we tackle the new challenges of change.

And yet, riddling our healthcare industry are old-school and outdated practices that all represent inefficiencies in our healthcare system. Furthermore, the healthcare industry, obsessed with finding the next blockbuster surgical procedure or silver bullet, seemed to have neglected revamping the basics of our health system. Although the advancement of technology in logistic and data management is well-documented, our healthcare system seems contented with their don’t-fix-anything-that’s-not-broken mentality. We believe that this is not the right approach and we should refocus our priority back to the primary beneficiaries of healthcare, the citizens of the country.

We propose a Centralised Medical Database (CMD) that makes use of information technologies to help patients, medical practitioners and other supporting stakeholders connect and exchange information easily with each other. This would give people much better knowledge of their personal health care needs and status and allow health care authorities to analyse key medical trends effectively.

By allowing more control and access over their health care information, people can make more accurate judgement when they are required to make medical decisions.
