Leadership Application Paper

Having good leadership skills and being able to apply them to every situation is vital to anyone wishing to become an excellent leader. I do not believe that someone can successfully be a leader of others if they do not have a grasp on what being a leader is all about.

For someone of my limited exposure to serious management and leadership opportunities I would say that I have decent leadership qualities. I believe that I am a person of strong integrity. I have this feeling because I am a golfer. You are taught very early that having strong integrity is a must if you want to be a successful golfer. It is a game of self examination and penalization. An example of my integrity was during a tournament, I accidently hit a ball that was not my own. This mistake results in a two-stroke penalty. I could have said nothing and continued to play my game and no one would have found out, but instead I told my playing partner that I had played that ball and gave myself the penalty. I also think that I have the drive to achieve anything that I set my mind to. During my sophomore year in high school, I did very poorly on my Algebra II with Trig semester exam. I told myself that I would not let it happen again and on the final I received that highest grade of all my teachers’ students. I believe that without drive a leader cannot succeed in motivating those they lead. Another trait that I have is a high degree of self-confidence. I am very confident in what I do, which sometimes leads others to call me arrogant, but I believe a high degree of self-confidence whether right or wrong is vital to leadership. This does not mean, however, that having high-self confidence means you cannot admit when you are wrong and correct your mistake.
