Let The Best Man Win

“You are my big brother and you bailed on me, ”Tommy explains to Brendon. While Tommy acknowledged why the fight must go on, Brendan obviously wants to make peace with him when he asked, “ You forgave papa why can’t you forgive me?.” The film Warrior is a captivating drama that focalizes on the violent world of mixed martial arts. Two brothers, Tommy and Brendan come from a distraught and broken family. They face their troubled past when they are brought together by fighting each other in the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) tournament, “Sparta”. By considering the paths the two brothers take to get to the final round of the MMA tournament, we see that the 2011 film, Warrior is a cutting edge story of the fable, “The Tortoise & the Hare.”

Tommy and Brendan’s main goal for entering the MMA tournament is to win the five million dollar prize. Brendan Conlon is unable to make ends it while working his job as a high school physics teacher, so he returns to the amateur ring to make extra money. Upon returning home from California, Tommy enlist his father, Paddy Conlon a recovered alcoholic and his former coach, to train him for the MMA tournament. Tommy has not seen his father and brother since he was a child because he fled away with his mom to get away from abusive, alcoholic father. Tommy resents Brendan because he chooses to stay in Pittsburgh. Tommy Riordan plans for the fight is to win the prize money to support his deceased Marine battle buddy, Manning, family. Preparing for the fight, the two brothers choose different paths that parallel the fable of the Tortoise & the Hare. Tommy is on the same path as the Hare while Brendan follows the Tortoise footsteps. The Hare has a natural advantage of having speed and is over confident in himself.
