The Problems of Relativism

In regards to the article on the problems of relativism, I understand and agree to certain concerns dealing with the idea of relativism. Although I do sympathize with the article, I also do not agree with some thoughts that are provided. Being that the article does have examples and supportive sentences along with these examples, it helps me understand the view on relativism, where this person is coming from, and why the person feel the way that they do. Although I myself do see the positive, I disagree on some of the examples that are provided.

The first example that I do not agree with is about everyone being a homosexual and the thought of human race disappearing. The article states, ’’If everyone chose to be homosexual, the human race would die out in one generation.’’ Let’s remember that relativism means that a person tries to convince someone else simply on what they believe, not necessarily on the absolute. Although it may be a harder and more time consuming process, with all of the alternative medicines and options, the human race could still evolve. The article speaks on the problems of relativism but, this example comes off as being a relative suggestion or ideaitself.

A part of the article that I do agree with would be the second example given. The example states,’’ If everyone chose to be violent, then society would be very unsafe and psychological problems would be epidemic.’’ This statement is true, not because of what one may think, but because it is absolute and can be supported through different research. If everyone becomes violent towards one another, there would be violence surrounding the world....
