1. Stress and Health
Stress and I have this love/hate relationship. It loves to chase me and I hate that it exist. Learning how to deal with the things that cause me stress has been a challenge. Previous to week 13 I would relax by going to the spa and getting a massage but I knew there was a way that would work for me and not cost me so much. So I was relieved and a bit excited when the assignment included some guided relaxation options. I was especially grateful for the opportunity to evaluate my stressors and their triggers throughout the assignment. I am a busy woman with many triggering factors that cause stress daily so I needed something I could use daily and that did not break the bank. As a result I began using the Deep Breathing by Simone Collins daily. Not only have I noticed a big difference my husband has as well. I am less “panicky” and I approach stressful situations with a different outlook. I can rationally evaluate most of my stressors which eases the tension in my body. the most important change meditation and deep breathing has helped me with is the many relationships I have with loved ones. Which I think creates the healthiest version of myself. I seem to be more attentive and enjoyable to be around. I did not expect this class would impose such a change in my personal life but growth was much needed and necessary.
2. Therapy
My husband and I were having communication difficulties so we decided to go see a marriage and family therapist. Since we both had suffered from several Significant Life Changing stressors, divorce from our previous marriages, things verbally and emotionally began to get toxic. I had never seen a therapist or counselor before so I was a bit skeptical. I often thought “what can someone else say to my husband that I haven’t already said”.
