#1. Total quality management (TQM) is a widely used quality and productivity intervention. Under TQM, organization members commit to continuous improvement in meeting or exceeding customer expectations (Brown, pg.341). TQM involves all areas of an organization. It helps with the development of customer-oriented, flexible, and responding to change needs. The top management should be involved in the culture change of the organization under TQM.

#3. The characteristics of self- managed work teams are (Brown pg. 350);

The structure of the organization or work site is based on team concepts.

There is an egalitarian culture and a noticeable lack of status symbols.

A work team has a physical site.

The number of people in a team is kept as small as possible.

Work teams order material and equipment.

Team members have a sense of vision for their team and their organization.

There is strong partnership between team members and management.
