The Benefits of Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding offers many benefits for both mom and baby. Intellectually children who have been breastfeed excelled academically. Breast milk provides many important vitamins for the infant naturally. As the baby feeds he/she receives a mix that is better on the baby stomach. According to (WebMD) the article states “It has a nearly perfect mix of vitamins, protein, and fat” all of which is what infants need as they grow.

Industrial countries are moving more toward breastfeeding, however as stated by (Jeffrey Trawick-Smith, pg. 103) “Breastfeeding in America varies by culture and socioeconomic status”. Depending on your financial standing in industrial countries tends to determine whether or not mothers will breastfeed. Infants who are breastfed are gain healthy head start fighting off the likelihood of having issues with asthma, dental issues, and weight issues just to name a few. Although the benefits are great for mother and baby it is still a choice some deny.

Under-Developed countries with mothers who breastfeed are capable of having their babies receive all of the same benefits as any infant who is breastfed. Mothers in under-developed countries however face other risk of not breastfeeding. Because these individuals may not have access to clean water or supplies they put the baby at risk of infections.

The greatest gift that mother and baby receive from breastfeeding is the opportunity to share those private and personal moments of bonding with one another. The security and unity that mother and baby feels is a lasting bond created, knowing that in the arms of this person I am safe, I am loved.
