When looking through Fortune Magazine’s annual ranking of America's “100 Best Companies to Work For,” the top company at the top of the list was Google. There is also a movie that shows the greatness of Google as two interns gain employment with them. Most people would give anything to work for such a great company or one that was similar. The second company at the top of the list is SAS which specializes in Information Technology Software. The fourth company at the top of the list is one seen locally so it was interesting to look over it, Edward Jones and they specialize in Financial Services and Insurance Investments. The focus of this paper is to analyze what elements foster employee motivation and group cohesion among employees of these companies.

Google has been on Fortune’s list 8 times and five of those times they topped the list at number one. Google jobs are some of the most sought after positions in the entire tech industry.

Google’s employees have access to numerous perks and benefits. The way that Google treats their employees is attractive to talent and motivates them to work harder in order to remain in that position. Google employees over 40,000 people and they all are trying to move up the ladder and become even more valuable to Google because it is worth it to do so. Some companies expect their employees to work their hardest and they in return skimp on their pay and benefits and keep all the profits. That is not the way to rise to the top because those employees who are not treated well will not really care for that company and they will not put in their best efforts. Google takes care of their most valuable asset which is their employees. “Google believes in providing both intrinsic and extrinsic rewards as they understand that many humans are not motivated by pay incentives alone” (Cook, 2014). Google caters employees by removing everyday stressors and common issues so that employees can focus on their work.
