Explain the difference between beliefs, attitudes and values

Critical thinking means making reasoned judgments that are logical and well thought out. It is a way of thinking in which you don't simply accept all arguments and conclusions you are exposed to but rather have an attitude involving questioning such arguments and conclusions. It requires wanting to see what evidence is involved to support a

particular argument or conclusion. Critical thinking is to examine any belief or supposed form of knowledge in the light of the evidence that supports it and the further conclusions to which it tends. It also generally requires ability to recognise problems, to find workable means for meeting those problems, to gather information and to recognise

assumptions and values.

Beliefs come from real experiences, which are an important part of our identity. These maybe cultural, religious or moral but evidently reflect who we are. Our beliefs are the convictions that we generally hold to be true

usually without actual proof or evidence that we make about the world and our values stem from these beliefs.

Religious beliefs could include the belief that God created the Earth in seven days or that Jesus was the Son of God. Religions other than Christianity have there own set of beliefs. Non-religious beliefs could include that all people are created equally, which would guide us to treat everyone regardless of sex, race, religion, age,

education or status with equal respect. Conversely someone might believe that all people are not created equal, which results in a racist or sexist values or attitude.

Values are standards that we hold in high regard. Our values guide us in the way we live our lives and the

decisions we make and can influence our judgments. Some of the values we have can be based on manners,

family life and pride. Values are the way we behave, communicate and interact with others.
