Where did the case of Miranda v Arizona originated?

The case originated in Phoenix Arizona. Miranda been arrested and taken into custody to a police station where he been identified by the complaining witness. Miranda was not told of his rights to counsel prior to questioning. He was interrogated by two officers for two hours, which resulted into a signed confession. At trial, the signed written confession been presented to the jury. He was found guilty of kidnapping and rape and he was sentenced to 20 to 30 years imprisonment on each account. On appeal the Supreme Court of Arizona did find that Miranda’s Constitutional rights had not been violated in obtaining the confession.

What other cases were considered by the Supreme Court at that time?

` Vignera v New York. Vignera was picked up in connection with the robbery of a dress shop, which occurred three days prior. He was taken to the 17th detective squad headquarters, then was taken to the 66th detective squad headquarters in where he orally admitted the robbery and was placed under arrest. He then been taken to the 70th precinct for detention in which he was questioned by the assistant district attorney in the presence of a hearing reporter who then transcribed the questions and answers. At the trial, the oral confession and transcript was presented to the jury. He was found guilty of first degree robbery and sentenced to 30 to 60 years imprisonment. The conviction been affirmed without opinion by the Appellate Division and the Courts of Appeals.

Westover v United States. Westover been arrested by local police in Kansas City as a suspect in robberies and taken to the local police station. A report came in from the FBI that Westover was wanted on felony charges in California. He was interrogated the night of the arrest and the next morning by the local police.
