I want you to think about 85,000,000users strong. Imagine adding 1 new user every second. Linkedin took 477 days to hit the 1 million user mark. The last million users took just 9 days from 84 to 85 million. If you’re looking for a date or to see the crazy weekend your buddies are having, then you have the wrong site. This paper will answer some questions to why so many are finding ways to utilize this free social media website to improve on the education as well as job skills. Some questions to be addressed are, is Linkedin an asset to a CEO? Should Linkedin open up is platform going social or staying strictly professional? It is important to see who its competitors are? Last what are the two biggest uses of Linkedin today?

One of Linkedin’s core value propositions was to be an asset to corporations. Having worked B2B (Business to business) sales it can be hard to get past the gatekeeper. It might be one way to try and network with them on social media. More importantly is why are these CEO’s on Linkedin in the first place? Look at it this way, if there is a fortune 500 list that comes out and you are a CEO on the list, how many other people share your title? There are 500 top company CEOs. I think CEO’s get on Linkedin to not grow their network but maybe reach out as a networking tool (extending contacts, maybe even letting another CEO they are there to consult with should need be). I think this would be a benefit to having access to a person you might not be able to get a hold of when you want.

One of the core assets of Linkedin, “is to enable professionals to conduct internet-based networking (Yoffie, 2008).” Just as mentioned earlier a CEO may want to reach out to others for future networking to extend their contacts, so might an employee of a company. Today employees are always going to look for new opportunities or may even create some opportunities. Linkedin may serve as a great tool for an employee looking to make connections that...
