Type Written Assignment #1

1.A The PBS Kids Sprout network fires Melanie Martinez, host of The Good Night Show, after learning she has appeared in a series of videos called Technical Virgin. The former airs bedtime stories and cartoons for an audience of 2- to 5-year-olds; the latter spoofs anti-teen-sex public service announcements by telling youngsters how to engage in sexual activity while "technically" retaining their virginity.

1.B If Martinez did make an inappropriate spoof commercial; how would the preschool aged kids ever be able to see it? Parents have control of what their child watches, there is no reason for kids to ever see this. I can think of a number of celebrities who use inappropriate language who still show on Disney and Nickelodeon. And for her to loose her job over it, I think is an excessive and hypocritical punishment.

1.C The managers of PBS could have thought of a better way of dealing with the situation. If Martinez would have known how her boss would have felt about her inappropriate spoof, she wouldn’t have risked loosing her job and not done it. Rather being fired, she could have been given a warning to prevent her from acting out ever again.

2.A In December, Taco Bell removes green onions from its menu, blaming the savory vegetable for sickening 71 customers. It later determines the onions were not in fact to blame, shifting responsibility to E. coli-tainted lettuce

2.B This is a very irresponsible mistake made by Taco Bell. Obviously when they realized that the food they were serving was making their customers sick, they should have found out what was truly the problem, rather making the assumption of the onions being the root of the problem.

2.C The managers of Taco Bell should have troubleshooted every possible option that could have been the reason for making customers sick before opening back up. Assuming the onions were what were making everybody sick, they simply just did not...
