Motivation Report

Motivation is a common tool used in everyday life, whether it is in the home or work place. At Jitter-Beans we feel that motivation in the work environment is key to having a successful business. “Motivation is described as a set of internal and external forces that initiate work-related behavior, and determine it form, direction, intensity, and duration”. (Strode) Motivation is used as a tool to help either individuals or corporations achieve a certain goal. This is why at Jitter-Beans we incorporated the Goal Setting Theory.

The Goal Setting Theory was based off of four decades of research by Edwin Locke and Gary Latham. Through setting goals it helps focus an individual or corporation’s effort in a specific area. Goals improve work ethic and have a constructive effect on determination. Goals also help motivate people to acquire new skills or strategies that are useful to the task at hand. Goals that are set must be clear and measurable, but also be challenging so that there is a sense of accomplishment once a goal is reached. If a goal is set that cannot be accomplished it can cause a feeling of being weighed down, and ultimately could lead to an individual resigning from the position he or she is in. To set an achievable goal one must have to be sure the goal can be achieved with the resources and the amount of time given. At Jitter-Beans Café we strive to be a fun and friendly environment for someone to enjoy a cup of Jo. (Strode)

My job at the Jitter-Beans is to be in charge of the personnel functions in work place. It is up to me to keep my employees motivated and excited about work. I will do this through a list of goals set to keep my employees motivated but also interested in their work. My first goal will include the café’s environment.
