ABSTRACT

This survey involves 40 participants, which are currently at the PUP-OU system. It aims to establish the profile of the current PUP-OU population. The profiling includes information for the population’s gender, income bracket, marital status and age. It also asks questions as to their experience with the system, i.e., advantages, system shortcomings, etc. It also gives us a gauge of how well or how bad the system is for higher learning, and for students who would want to get their degree using this system, provide some insight on their experience with the current structure and methods used in the PUP-OU system. With the information gathered and examined, it aims to give suggestions on improvement to the system as well as identifying its strengths as to further build on this moving forward.

OBJECTIVE

To find out the demographic of the PUP-OU population.

To determine its effectiveness.

To find out the strengths and weaknesses of the PUP Open University System.

INTRODUCTION

With the advent of the internet, information has never been more available and easily accessible as it is today. Technology has advanced to a point that almost everyone can gain access to the internet, be it via laptop, tablet or mobile phone, and this has contributed to many innovations and conveniences which include getting a degree in higher education. In the United States and in most countries around the world, home schooling is legal and before 1900, home schooling was the most common and accepted mode of education. A piece of trivia: there were Ten United States presidents who were home schooled by their mothers. 1 Although home schooling is not considered higher education, it can be considered the root of the Open University that is now slowly proliferating the Philippines and the rest of the world.
