EMOTIONS AND MOODS

Emotions and moods play important role in our workplace behavior and everyday lives. In this chapter, we will look at carefully how the employees bring their emotional sides with them to work every day.

Firstly, we need to clarify three terms that are closely intertwined: affect, emotions, and moods. Affect is a broad range of feelings that people experience. It can be experienced in the form of emotions or moods. Emotions are intense feeling that are directed at someone or something. Moods are feeling that tend to be less intense than emotions and that often lack a contextual stimulus. Moreover, emotion and moods can be different and mutually influent. Emotions are reactions to a person or event. Moos, in contrast, aren’t usually directed at a person or event. We must consider some other fundamental aspects of emotions rather than our consideration about individual’s emotion. Firstly, the biology of emotions is all emotions originate in the brain’s limbic system which illustrates how positive (active mode) or negative (inactive mode) emotions. Secondly, intensity of emotions depends on inherent ability and job requirement. Finally, some emotions occur more frequently than others in terms of frequency and duration of emotions. However, there are two arguments for explaining why emotions make us not thinking logically. A famous astronomer- Carl Sagan, he suggests that ration and emotion are in conflict with another; therefore, we are likely to act irrationally in express emotions. In contrast, Charles Drawin argued that emotions developed over the time to help humans solve problem. He also focus on evolutionary psychology what study whether emotions are positive or negative.

Secondly, we consider some sources of emotions and moods. The researchers have conducted more studies on the sources of moods than on the sources of particular emotions. There are a lot of factors also effect emotions. The firstly factor is personality. It predisposes...
