History of the United Parcel Service (UPS)

UPS started in 1907, it was created by Jim Casey and Claude Ryan who were two teenagers from Seattle with two bicycles and one phone. They began with their business in a closet-sized basement office.

There promises to their customers soon saw their fruition in the future, with their promise of delivering the best service and the lowest rates. Now, UPS has used this formula efficiently for more than 90 years and has become the world's largest ground and air package-distribution company. From a small company in Seattle they have created this global enterprise that has 425.000 employees, 93.000 vehicles and now has the status of being the 9th largest airline.

Today, the company delivers more than 15 million parcels and documents on a daily basis in the US and in more than 200 other countries and territories.

UPS has been able to maintain leadership in small-package delivery services despite heavy competition from other companies such as, FedEx and Airborne Express. They have been able to maintain success through heavy investments in Information Technology. UPS spends more than $1 billion...
