Home Visit with Michael and Melanie Miller

SSCM met with Mr. and Mrs. Miller on 9/8/2015 at their home at 2201 Willard St, Charlotte NC @ 6:15 PM.

* Mr. Miller stated that the residence of the house includes Mrs. Melanie Miller (wife), Emily Miller (daughter), Nathan Miller (son) and himself. No other HH members.

* SSCM arrived at house at 6:15 PM, home was very tidy and clean. Home is a three bedroom, two bath homes, with a living room, dining room, Kitchen and home office for Mrs. Miller.

* There is food in the refrigerator, and cabinets.

* Both Emily and Nathan have their own bedrooms, each room has a bed, TV and children clothes and entertainment (Toys, video games, etc...)

* Home has running water and proper electricity.

All family members were present at the time of HV.

SSCM spoke with all present family members face to face and alone.

Face to face interviews:

Mr. Miller:

SSCM spoke with Mr. Miller face to face and alone in the living room; Mr. Miller stated that he was aware why SSCM was at the home. Mr. Miller discussed his concerns that he feels like he was just disciplining his children for not doing their chores. Mr. Miller stated that he is aware that Emily has a mark from the belt he used on her thigh but that he did not intend on hitting Emily on her thigh. Per Mr. Miller, he is the one that disciplines the children and he usually gives each child three to four hits on their buttocks with the belt or a paddle. (Mr. Miller, proceeded to show SSCM both the belt and paddle he stated that he used to discipline the child(ren) However, Mr. Miller stated that while he was spanking Emily she attempted to run and that is how she was hit with the belt on her thigh. SSCM discussed with Mr. Miller that he is allowed to discipline his children however; the law outlines the difference between corporal punishment and child abused.
