Mission Statement

The Mission Statement is a brief summary about the overall goal or purpose of the company.

Based on my research and understanding I infer that Bloomsbury Publishing’s mission is to globally produce quality electronic and print publications presenting them to readers. Bloomsbury Publishing hopes to satisfy its customers by providing them with a portfolio of different reading material to satisfy their needs.

Observations:

Bloomsbury Publishing is one of the leading small press publishers in Europe; they are rapidly growing due to high quality management. The mission statement has to include its global strategy by clearly identifying its customers as readers located globally due to the many arms of its company.

The rising of demand of eBooks, electronic references and databases is vital to Bloomsbury’s growth as a company as well as its customers. This can be further justified by the Chief Executives Statement of interim results for the six months up till 30 June 2010. Part of the report states “E-book volumes and demand for digital delivery of intellectual property continue to gather momentum and Bloomsbury is well positioned to take advantage of these developments to generate new revenue streams and find new markets. Many new e-reading devices have been launched in 2010. US e-book revenues for the industry as a whole in the first six months of 2010 were $179.7m against $63.4m for the same period in 2009, some of which is incremental rather than substitutional. The general consensus is that e-readers will not be the only driver of e-books sales. Success will come from sales across many other platforms including mobile devices.”Bloomsbury Publishing has different subsidiaries under its umbrella which would suit the needs of different customers. These subsidiaries are part of the Bloomsbury Group which includes A&C Black, Berg, Berlin Verlag , Bloomsbury Academic, Bloomsbury Professional ,  Bloomsbury USA...
