Development of Training and Mentoring Programs

“Training consists of planned programs designed to improve performance at the individual, group, and organizational levels. Improved performance, in turn, implies that there have been measurable changes in knowledge, skills, attitudes, and social behavior” (Cascio, 2006, 2). The management staff for InterClean Incorporated have established a training and mentoring program for the new sales team. The company strongly believes that the team will be more effective with these programs in place.

Although each team member have previous sales experience, acquiring additional training is always a plus. More training is necessary because of several reasons. The first reason is that some of the members worked for EnviroTech and are not familiar with the technology or terminology of InterClean. Second, this group of individuals have not worked together. Working as a team to drive results is not always easy. Team players have to build on each other strengths and weaknesses. Third, the team members consist of multiple ethnicity groups that promotes a diverse culture. Many of the members such as Jim Martin, Susan Burnt, and Terry Garcia went through training many of years ago. Society has drastically changed. These members do not have updated knowledge or skills, which may required to make the sales. Last, all members will receive the same training, at the same time, with the same message, which will equal consistency. This will be important so no one person will have a greater advantage than the next.
