Diversity problems exist in businesses across the United States. Having a strong diversity program in the workplace is a smart idea. It sets the tone for how that business wants to be seen in the eyes of both its employees and the outside world. Diversity initiatives bring people with different backgrounds together, integrates the ideas of all, and everyone, including consumers, benefits as a result.

Diversity programs can help address many issues. Some of those issues are racism, sexism, ageism, cultural differences, class, religion, politics, sexual preference and lifestyle. The manner in which different organizations promote or handle diversity issues can set the tone for how the company will be perceived by both employees and customers.

I currently work for a Defense contractor, which has a very strong diversity program and policies, which aim to create a strong diversify workplace. As a global organization which has offices in the five continents , XX Systems has understood that diversity affects performance, so it is important to manage any issues that may result from personality conflicts. Diversity also determines how an employee interacts with other employees and the type of motivation involved in the job performance.

Training: every new hires is required to take the diversity awareness training and work team diversity within thirty days from their dates of hires. The named trainings are aimed to increase diversity awareness and instruct employees about the benefits of a diversify workplace. It enhances the personal tolerance levels of every individual employee and educate employees on the company's diversity initiatives and strengthen employee relations. Besides of these trainings, managers are also required to take supervisors training on diversity and attend multiple diversity awareness events.
