Communication Theory Paper

Communication is the one skill in our lives that we try to master, but always seem to get it wrong. The purpose of communication is to convey one’s beliefs, thoughts or needs with the clarity so as to reach a consensus or a mutually acceptable solution (Lyer, Aparna 2012). Good communication is needed throughout our lives and in everything we do. In this paper, there is information that was found through research about: How do people communicate in the Health Care Setting? How do gender and cultural differences play a role in communication? How do teams or groups use communication process in the Health Care Setting?

Cultural diversity and ethic is like a melting pot in the United States. In a healthcare setting, this can be a bad dream for the patients, on the other hand affect the health care team (Quan, Kathy R.N., B.S.N., P.H.N.). Working as a team or in a group, is identified as teamwork. Teamwork is defined as the collaborative effort of a group or a team to achieve a common goal. When it comes to health care, the goal is to better the quality of the patient’s life and outcomes (Quan, Kathy R.N., B.S.N., P.H.N.). The best way to achieve this is all the team members coming together and being involved in their patient’s care so they can provide the best care possible. In health care the team members have supplementary and/or complementary roles. The team must have a very clear understanding of their roles, responsibilities of each member and to accommodate professional differences (Quan, Kathy R.N.S., B.S.N., P.H.N.). It is important for each team member to understand their role in a team.

One of the greatest advantages of teamwork is when all team members put forth their best efforts, the team learns from each other. Working in a team requires each team member to have the ability to communicate, to solve, and to negotiate while working toward...
