Qatar

"60 Minutes," is the most successful television broadcast in history. It offers hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news. The broadcast begun in 1968 and still it is a hit in 2012. This program airs every Sunday at 7:00pm. There are a lot of producers in this television broadcast and one of them is Harry Radliffe, the one who made an interview with Shekih Hammad Al-Thani. They were talking about Qatar in general and how Qatar was not affected by the Arab spring. This interview was showed on 15th of January 2012.

In the beginning of the program, the producer said that the Arab Spring is spreading, but not to Qatar, a tiny, oil-rich country wedged between Saudi Arabia and Iran. He said that there were no protests or demonstrations and also said that it might be because of the 250,000 Qatari citizens are the richest in the world in addition to that they don’t even pay taxes. That means, they are living a luxury life and that’s why they are not protesting against the government. He mentioned that there is no democracy there because the same family has been ruling them for 150 years. However, it seems that the Qatari people don’t mind about it. He also said that Qatar now is not only a rich country but also a powerful country which is feared and admired by everyone in the Middle East. One reason of that is their television network Al-Jazeera Channel which has been the engine for the Arab spring. Harry hosted and interviewed Sheikh Hammad Al-Thani and told him that he is surrounded by a revolution called “Arab Spring” and asked him how does he managed to avoid it. He replied that the Qatari revolution has started long before. Harry told him that America will be shocked when they know that there are no taxes and free electricity, health care and education also.
