With fossil fuels running out rapidly, I support the use of nuclear energy as a primary energy source since it emits less carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases, relatively cheaper in the long run and produces more energy than other fossil fuel plants. Nuclear energy power plants are easy to build with the current technology and are more efficient in producing energy than fossil fuel plants. Initially it is expensive; however it can be easily compensated with the cost of lowering the pollution. Nuclear power station uses the radioactive uranium to produce the electricity. It runs in the same way as the fossil fuel power stations except that a chain reaction inside a nuclear reactor makes the heat instead. Heat in the nuclear reactor is generated by the nuclear fission and uranium rods are used to produce the heat. Then, the carbon dioxide or water is pumped through the reactor to take the heat away which produces the steam from the water which is used to drive the turbine to produce energy. United States is at the top in producing the nuclear electricity in the world. It produces approximately seven hundred billion kilowatts of energy from the nuclear power plant each year. Also, the United States has the most number of operational nuclear power plants worldwide.

There are certain advantages associated with the nuclear power plant. The nuclear power plant emits very low to zero amount of carbon dioxide and green house gases. In addition, using the low amount of reactant, it produces more amount of electrical energy. Although, the nuclear energy source is a non- renewable energy source since the uranium used to produce the nuclear energy cannot be recycled, it is expected to last over a century. The disposal of the radioactive material could be a major issue which can be solved by the latest technology and research.

The pollution produced from the coal and gas burning power plant is heading towards dangerous levels. Oil spills are destroying the habitats of...
