As the chief editor of the metropolitan daily newspaper, you are held accountable for delegating assignments to staff members as well as keeping up with the time it takes them to complete their given assignments. The chief editor is also responsible for all aspects of the news operation including the content of the paper, budget, and hiring. The involvement with day to day production of their job includes interviews, news investigation, productivity and things of that nature. You also make sure that your staff members complete the assignments that are given to them by their appointed deadline.

As a company, you should make sure everything that is being reported to the readers is true. There must be procedures in place established to help maintain the newspapers integrity, ethics, and quality of work. If one of your reporters is caught fabricating sources and making up facts then they should automatically be fired with no exceptions because now the company’s credibility is at question.

Under no circumstances should any staff members make up facts or fabricate sources in order to land the next big story, and that is why being fired is the type of disciplinary action that must be implemented because the newspaper plays a major role in delivering news to the media and the readers. As a reader, you should be able to trust the information that you are receiving, and not have to question the trustworthiness and honor of a large metropolitan daily newspaper corporation. The information should always be reliable and honorable.

These are the main factors that make a newspaper creditable. There is no way a staff member can explain fabricating a story. There is no point of putting the employee on suspension, because you know that they are capable of practicing or repeating this type of behavior in the future.
