HEV 100 Co-sleeping & Breastfeeding Name: Kaylee Hanson Class ID#: 29

Before asking my parents these questions, I had no idea how I was brought up as a baby or what my parents did to make sure I was safe. I asked my mother the questions you assigned, and she was very excited that I was finally curious about my infancy. My mother said I slept on my back, because she knew I could suffocate if I slept on my stomach. She also mentioned for the first few months after I was born, I slept in the same room as her and my father. I slept next to her side of the bed in a bassinet so she could wake up every time I started crying. I never slept in the same bed as my parents because my father worked midnights as a policeman, and he did not want to wake me up by moving around in bed whenever he woke up or came home from work. When I was a baby, my mother had a lot of time to spend with me. The reason for this is because I broke her tailbone while she was in labor with me. So along with maternity leave from work, she had to recover from a broken tailbone. According to my mother, every time she breastfed me, I would fall asleep and she would rock me. If she was not rocking me, she had me in a sling on her back and would carry me around while she did chores around the house. Either way, I would always be close to her for at least the first year of my life. My mother also said that she breastfed me on demand because she was a stay at home mom for the first couple years of my life. There was no schedule she had to follow, so she chose to breastfeed me whenever I needed to. Being a stay at home mom also meant having more time to breastfeed me, which she did for 13 or 14 months.
