The Four Functions of Management

In order to effectively and efficiently work with people and obtain the proper resources to accomplish an organization’s goals, you need the process of management. Good managers must maintain a clear focus on efficiency and effectiveness which will enable them to not only succeed in management, but to achieve overall success with the company.

To gain success in management, management principles must be understood as these functions are especially important in start-up businesses as well as established corporations.

What are the Functions of Management?

There are four traditional functions of management which are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. These functions are needed to allow an organization to handle thorough, planned and set decisions.

Planning

Without a solid plan, there is room for failure. Planning is the foundation of management. It is where all areas of management are built that requires the administration to assess the company, where the company is presently set, and where it would be going forward. From that point, a course of action is determined and implemented to achieve the company’s goals.

Planning is an action that is never ending. Depending on the situation, an organization may have to change its course path in midstream of the planning process in order to continue to strive to accomplish the company’s goals also known as strategic planning. In strategic planning, management analyzes factors internally and externally that will possibly affect the company’s goals. This planning would include strengths and weaknesses survey, opportunities, and possible impacts.

Organizing
