Task 1:

The table below gives information about rail transport in four countries in 2007

The table displays three categories of information about rail transport systems in four countries, namely number of people using rail transport (not including metro), passenger kilometers per head of population, cargo carried.

As clearly seen in the tables, in Japan, the number of people using rail transport was the highest in six countries. There was 27 using rail transports in Japan in 2007. In contrast, this system was only 0.3 using in USA. This number was the lowest in six countries. While, UK ranked second with 5.9 system users.

In passenger kilometers per head of population, Japan is rated the first with 1,980 kilometers long. The next is Italy which is practically one-third the length of Japan's (780 kilometers). This is then followed by UK. There was 770 kilometers in 2007. USA completed the table in the last rank.

Turning to cargo carried in 2007 in four countries, USA has the greatest number among others, with 2821 billions of tons. Japan came as the second serving 23.01 billions of tons. Italy occupied the last rank, with only 21.9 billions of tons.

Task 2:

It is becoming more and more difficult to escape the influence of the media on our lives. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living in a media-rich society.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Currently, there have been widespread discussions about the media and various arguments have been put forward. While a large number of people may strenuously argue that it media influence in our lives, others may disagree with this view. Considering the numerous arguments made, I would hold that there are both advantages and disadvantages. The main reasons are as follows.
