Dumping & Anti-dumping

Justice or injustice between north and south in the frame of WTO (It may wander from the dumping issues, I'm sorry for that)

Generally, dumping is the act of charging a lower price for a good in a foreign market than one charges for the same good in a domestic market; it ofen causes the material injury to a domestic industry in the importing country, so thousands of workers lose their jobs . The purpose of exporting counties are mainly grabbing market share, through lower price to drive domestic industry out of business; and then raise the price to make profit. Actually, the WTO agreement allows governments to act against dumping where there is material injury to the competing domestic industry; however, it also causes unemployment in the exporting country. The disputes now are how to identify the dumping; how to implement anti-dumping actions; and more importantly, how does this program operate in WTO. ( We found two dumping cases: a. MEXICO – ANTI-DUMPING INVESTIGATION OF HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP (HFCS) FROM THE UNITED STATES; b. GUATEMALA - ANTI-DUMPING INVESTIGATION REGARDING PORTLAND CEMENT FROM MEXICO. The cases and their influences were mainly analysed by other group member in my group, so I will not talk about them directly)

The external goal of the WTO is to improve the welfare of the peoples of the member countries throng establishing a more free international trade. However, things go contrary to its purpose that disseminate to the public. More specifically, it means the operation of secretive, biased and exclusive, which is undemocratic, violating fundamental human rights and enhanced the gap between north and south, as well as the inequality within countries.
