The Tired Swimmer: A Case Study on the Nervous System

* Part One

1. What vital signs or symptoms does Annie exhibit?

The vital signs and symptoms that Annie exhibit are blurred vision and eye strain for over a month Also, her hands and fingers are constantly aching and feeling weak. She is also having trouble breathing (trouble catching her breath and gasping for air) and having constant fatigue. Also over the past month her swimming rates slowed.

2. Can you see any common features in Annie’s signs and symptoms?

Both her eyes and hands are feeling weak. She is feeling constant fatigue all over her body from her hands to chest to her eyes, which are all control by muscles. Muscle contracts your eyes to focus. Muscle move your fingers, your hands and your body and problems with your muscles could be the cause of her symptoms.

3. Why is Annie having problems breathing?

Annie could be having trouble breathing because she is overworking herself with her obligations of being a member in a competitive sport. Annie could be having trouble breathing because the amount of stress on her between swim meets, finals and papers due could cause her to have panic attacks, which could be a cause of breathing problems. Her muscle could be overworking themselves

4. What are the possible reasons for Annie’s condition?

The possible reason for her blurred vision and eye strain is her eyes were not used to wearing contracts so long with her work load or her contracts were a new brand that her eyes were not used too. Her hands and fingers could be constantly aching from her work load as a swimmer and as a student with school stresses. Her trouble breathing, constant trouble with catching her breath and fatigue could be her body is trying to get used to all the stress she is putting on it both emotionally and physically with school(finals, papers, etc.) and swimming(practice, meets, etc.).
