Decision-Making Process

I am choosing a time in my life that I thought I was going to lose it all, and then a leap of faith changed everything. On February 1, 2002 I had just given my two weeks’ notice to the company I was with for the past two years. A new distribution center was opening up and there were lots of opportunities. My daughters and I were living in a very small two bedroom row home and were just getting by. I had just lost my boyfriend of two years and was really thinking quite low. I was driving up Locust Street in the town I was living in and there it was a for sale sign in this cute half double on a great street. Close to my new job, the girls’ schools and my Baba. Never thinking I could ever come up with the down payment I just went on my gut and called to make an appointment. I didn’t tell my girls just in case it didn’t work out. And so my decision-making process began.

I decided to go look at the place the next day. Walking in I knew I was making an offer the house was perfect three bedroom, two baths (one was big enough to be a bedroom), fenced in yard and enough room for my girls and I to grow and be happy. Then the financial talk started, now I had never even thought of buying a house much less talk about it. The owner and I got the prices out of the way and I told him I would call him in a few days. I went home broke it down and made some calls to other realtors and my father. Figured out the differences between the rent and bills that I had now and what they would be if I bought the house. It wasn’t much of a difference approximately $200.00 more and I would be a home owner and start building my credit and future.

So I diagnosed the problem and the problem was that my girls and I were living is a very small nonfunctional row home and paying way more than I should be. I went around the neighborhood where I lived and then were the new house was. I called about other houses in the area that were for sale and for rent....
