Physical Forces
Denmark is the southern most of the Scandinavian countries located in Northern Europe. It’s only land border is Germany. Its sea borders are the Baltic and North Seas, boasting 4,500 miles of coastlines. Located on the peninsula of Jutland, Denmark, Faroe and Greenland along with 406 islands make up the Kingdom of Denmark. (See Appendix A)
As part of the Northern European Plain, Denmark topography is mainly green farmland with blue lakes and white coastal beaches, providing a very gentle rolling landscape. It lies in the lowlands between the Fenno-Scandinavian mountain shield to the north and the central European mountains to the south.
Denmark’s climate is fairly temperate with no extremes of heat or cold. The months between June and August have an average temperature of about 66F, with February and March being the coldest months with an average temperature of about 34F. Being a coastal country, the weather is often wet and windy.
In addition to its gas and oil fields in the North Sea, Denmark’s natural resources include fish, salt, limestone, stone, gravel and sand.
