After watching the video, prepare your report for Flight 001 managers by answering the following questions:

1. According to Maslow's hierarchy, which basic needs did Shank's old boss fail to meet?

I say the Esteem Needs, which are related to self respect, personal worth, and autonomy). I don’t think it’s related to the need for Self realization since I think this need is accomplish once you feel identified and motivated by the company, where you put in the extra effort to go the extra mile, but you need to feel identified with the company, your boss and co-workers first in order for this to happen.

Explain why the needs have not been met.

Shank’s old boss literality told her that she wasn’t important, that she could easily be replaced. Because of this she did feel neither motivated nor identified with the company, as one might feel in these cases undignified.

Also, the fact the Shank’s former boss did not care for motivating his staff is a clear indicator that the company itself did not have an establish HR department that would help in managing its personnel. This is because in other circumstances Shank could have simple complaint on her boss’s behavior and the HR department would have handled the situation.

What could be done to meet these missing needs? (25 points)

The company itself must transmit their goals and objectives to their employees, so that they may share it, feel identified with it and focus their energy on accomplishing there task that lead towards the benefit of the company. The HR department is crucial in this, since they must find ways to motivate staff, and also assure that supervisors and managers are doing their part, by being good leaders.
