Xerox

People today have becoming more aware of how we affect the environment. Rain forests have been cut down; natural habitats are being destroyed; trash is being disposed of improperly. With businesses that in the paper production, it is important to have a strong, clear ethics statement, more so than many other businesses. Xerox is paper production and business supply company that could easily contribute to tearing down our environment for the sake of a few extra dollars profit. However, not only does Xerox have a detailed, specific ethics code, they also have an ethics council to ensure the most responsible choices are made.

Xerox has multiple ethics codes applying to different areas of their business. Their first one is their global code of conduct that is available in 13 different languages. The code of conduct document is written to be easily understood. The mission statement is:

“Our strategic intent is to help people find better ways to do great work by constantly leading in document technologies, products and services that improve our customers’ work processes and business result” (Appendix B p 4).

It contains a decision making process and provides ways to make ethical decisions including contact with their ethics council, manager, and even a help hotline that can be accessed anywhere in the world at any time and is always treated confidentially. Seminar and ethics classes are available, not only to the entry level positions, but to every stage and department of the company. They also supply employees with legal knowledge, which is crucial because Xerox operates in 160 countries around the world. The core values are each elaborated on, explaining how Xerox plans to keep these values through every employee.
