1. What is digestion? Digestion is the mechanical and chemical breakdown of food into usable molecules
2. List some other names of the digestive tract. Alimentary Canal or GI Tract
3. Explain where and how the mechanical breakdown of food occurs. It begins in the mouth, teeth begin digestion mechanically by chewing, also known as, mastication, which breaks the food apart. There are specific teeth used for specific jobs; incisors for cutting, canines or fangs for tearing, and premolars and molars for grinding the food.
4. How does food move through the digestive tract. By peristalsis, a wavelike motion.
