Dating is a ritualized courting process that developed in the twentieth century as a means for adolescents to engage in approved heterosexual activities. It emerged first in the United States in response to significant social and gender changes in schooling and work, family life, and recreational activities. During the twentieth century, dating spread to other Westernized societies, although it has become increasingly attenuated in the context of the revolution in premarital sexual behavior after the 1960s. “Since the 1960’s the roles and expectation of dating have completely changed” (Gross, 2005). In today’s society, dating is a common word among people who love to post their profile and upload their photographs on social networking sites, friendship sites and/or dating sites. But even before the evolution of the Internet, people were familiar with dating in a more traditional way. Dating has evolved from supervised dating to one night stands. The conception among teenagers and college students is the idea of “hooking up” or casual dating has increased which is said to have increased the number of unplanned pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, AIDS and the idea of dating being not as important in building a solid relationship.

There are so many different things to worry about before you go out on a date. For a girl, you want to make sure your hair looks great and you are dressed nice. Regardless if this is a first date or if it’s the fourth date a person still worries, concerns, expectations, excitement; these are all different feelings that one will experience before going out on a date. I went on a date with a guy for the first time but we have known each other since high school, we went to a pizza place I was unfamiliar with.
