1. Project Description

This project will provide for replacement of play equipment, access improvements and other work at the existing play area. This will give the corporation the chance to show their skills in re-creating a playground that will fit the needs of all ages and disabilities of children in the community. This project was taken on by the City of Brampton for the reason that we have had multiple complaints from residents that it was not up to the Canadian standards Association guidelines. Our intent is to engage the community in creating a public space that is a rich and varied environment for multigenerational socializing and learning − a landscape that conveys a positive message to the students, area residents and businesses regarding the importance of community, beauty of nature, and power within people to evoke change

4. Vision

Play is an essential part of a child’s daily life. Research studies have documented the health benefits of children being active for 30 to 40 minutes each day. Play benefits children in areas besides physical development as well. Children engaging in pretend play develop the ability to express their ideas and feelings amongst their peers. Play stimulates thinking in an active fashion and teaches children how to socialize and communicate with their peers. Children who participate in play/recess as a part of their regular school day are found to be more prepared to learn in the classroom. The City of Brampton vision for playgrounds is that the built environment exists as a safe, fun, and inviting place to play, which not only supports physical development and the goals of the physical education curriculum, but also encourages children’s social and emotional development and promotes readiness when situations occur.
