WHAT IS COMPUTER SOFTWARE?

A computer system comprises of hardware which are basically the electronic devices that are physically attached to the computer, and Software is a set of machine readable instructions that directs a computer processor to perform specific operations. The instuctions which control the sequence of operations are known as programs. A collection of programs is known as Software. It is intangible or abstract in nature.The functioning of every hardware equipment is driven by software.

Software is responsible for controlling, integrating, and managing the tangible components of a computer.It is also responsible for performing tasks directed towards the attainment of specific objectives defined by the user. Software tells the computer about the goal and how to achieve it.

Software communicates with the hardware by organising control sequences. Hardware carries out the directions defined by the software.

These directions or commands are in the form of a program which are written in a specific type of language known as programming languages. A program controls the activity of processor. When hardware components functions according to the instructions of a program it is said that the program is being executed.

A set of programs written for the ease of the user so that the user can perform a specific task is termed as software package. For example MS word, Notepad

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

Software refers to the programs in a computer system where as hardware refers to all tangible devices, which are accumulated together to build a computer system. Even though hardware can be touched, it is nothing unless it has software to restrain it.Both are commendatory to each other.

To perform a particular job using a computer, the applicable software is loaded in the storage device. Different softwares can be used on same hardware to carry out different tasks.
