John Peters, the sixth salesperson of Dryer & Son is a diligent student with a degrees in Engineering and Management Information System (MIS). His minor was in Marketing specifically, sales. Because of his intellectual and good capabilities as a good salesperson, Al Dryer hired him knowing that he can make a solution to resolve the problems in their business.

Ed was a trainer of John. Golf was one of a skill that Ed required John to learn because it’s often that’s where deals are really transacted. Another requirement of Ed was that John needs to read the Procurement Integrity Section of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy Act and the Federal Acquisition Regulation, which implements the act. And John had to read the Certificate of Procurement Integrity, which procurement agents had to sign. As John read the documents, he noted the statement in Section 27(a)(2) and (3).

This was might be related to the works of Ed and John as Ed said. When they had returned from Sales calls in St. Louis and Washington, DC, Ed told John that he doesn’t has the right numbers down for their expenses. He has a 15 percent short because he forgot all his tips. Then, John realized that Ed was right. As John looked at Ed’s report, he noticed some numbers that seemed quite large. John suggested to mentioning this problem to Mr. Dryer so that the accounting can put the extra lines on the reports. Ed lectured John that this is the way they do things around, and they don’t like changes to the system. On another trip, John learned the differences between working directly with the federal government procurement people and the companies with which D&S subcontracted.

Ed told John that in order to excel in this business; he needs to be an expert on knowing exactly where things become legal and illegal. John started reviewing more government documents and asking the other salespeople about Ed. At the end of another trip, Ed had lectured...
