Personal Goal Statement

To leave a legacy one must strive to be the best in every facet of life, to such a degree that he empowers those around him. What better way to help others than to heal? There are so many people in this world that are in need of medical attention and it is unfortunate that they are unable to receive it. It fascinates me that we have the capacity to study ourselves, and thus discover new and incredible ways to improve our quality of life. Like the groundbreaking research of Edward Anthony Jenner, who discovered a correlation between smallpox and cowpox, and thus a vaccination. The first accounts of smallpox were found in ancient Egypt more than three thousand years ago. To think of how many people suffered from smallpox sheds light on how many lives were saved by the work of Jenner. His efforts pioneered an aggressive campaign to eradicate the smallpox infection world wide, which was achieved more than one hundred years after his death. What a legacy to leave. Little did he know that his work would save more lives than he could have ever imagined.

In recent years I have been surrounding my self with physicians and surgeons of all kinds. After graduating from Texas State University, my job search landed me a position at Medical Consultants Network, a company that provides risk management services to insurance carriers through independent medical examinations and second medical opinions. The daily contact that I have with these physicians has given me an incredible understanding and respect for the lives they lead. A physician is expected by society to work harder, longer, and smarter than any other occupation. They are demanded to make so many personal sacrifices that their existence becomes a selfless expression of an inward commitment to improving the lives of everyone worldwide.
