1. What qualities might Jim possess that would make him a successful project manager?

As stated in chapter 2 Jim had worked at Broadway Entertainment Company as a senior systems analyst. Also he shopped at Petrie’s Electronics himself on many occasions. His experiences with systems analysis along with being a customer should give him a pretty good idea of what the customers would like to see and how to put it all together to make it work.

That along with having a great personality and able to respond to the new team mebers with confidence will help him be a good team leader as well.

2. How do you think Jim should respond to Ella’s implied pressure about the importance of the project to her?

Jim should understand that what he is doing is important to Ella. He should not let the pressure get to him. He was chosen for this project because he showed that he had the ability in the first place. Just like choosing the projects and its process, choosing the team and it’s leaders is done in the same fashion. Ella believes in the project and she also believes that Jim is the best man for the job. Just because Ella has Bob to represent her does not mean anything other than she is busy herself and has other things that she must attend too. And using Bob she is able to be kept informed of what is going on.

3. What strategies might Jim employ to deal with a very busy team member, such as Juanita Lopez?

Since Juanita is in a different location he may want to utilize video conferencing for meetings and implement a cloud base storage unit for documents where everything can be centralized and everyone can have access to them on demand without having to wait on people to travel. Also he will have to take into consideration time restrictions and do his best to schedule things where she is needed well in advanced so she can plan for them as well.
