1. How does Ben’s age affect his decision to get an MBA?

Age is an important factor when someone makes any decision at all. In this case, Ben’s age is 28 years and after graduation from the MBA, he can get a much higher salary even though his education costs expenses (tuition fee, book, etc.) and time (1~2 years). If he starts to study now, he can receive salary at high rate for 36~37 years. Otherwise, the later he starts to study, the shorter time he will be able to get a high salary. Therefore, it will seriously affect the total salary he can receive while working. Also, age affects his earning efficiency and ability to get a job. As time goes by, his learning efficiency will decrease and most company prefers young and energetic workers. So, the earlier he starts to study, the more effectively he can study and find a job easily.

2. What other, perhaps nonquantifiable, factors affect Ben’s decision to get an MBA?

Some nonquantifiable factors will affect Ben’s decision. The most important thing is his family conditions. If he got married and had children, he would take care of his family for a living and try to satisfy their desire instead of concentrating on studying. Another is the possibility of success in current job and good relationship with his coworkers and boss. If he gains more recognition from the current company and coworkers, he might debate which way is better. The other factor is his passion for studying. It is difficult to decide to study again in few years after graduating from school because there are several restrictions, both direct and indirect. Therefore, if he has no passion for studying, he might give up studying easily and settle for the present. A challenge for something new requires sacrifices of the other parts with invisibly.
