Blue Zuma Project Part Two

Part A

1. Which if any of the resources are overallocated?

The resources that are overallocated are Marketing specialist, Design engineer, Industrial engineer, and Purchasing agent.

2. Which activities involve overallocated resources?

The activities that involve overallocated resources are Product design, Detailed marketing plan, Manufacturing process, Detailed product design, Order components, and Order production equipment.

3. Assume that the project is time constrained and try to resolve any overallocation problems by leveling within slack. What happens?

4. What is the impact of leveling within slack on the sensitivity of the network?

As a result of leveling resources within slack, the sensitivity of the network increases because the amount of slack in the network has decreased, which effects the critical path of the project.

Part B

1. Assume that the project is resource constrained and no additional personnel are available. How long will the project take given the resources assigned? (Hint: Undo leveling performed in Part A before answering this question.)

By leveling the resources without slack, the duration of the project will increase from 250 days to 290 days, an increase of 40 days. The completion date will move from December 22, 2008 to February 18, 2009.

2. How does the new duration compare with the estimated completion date generated from Part 1? What does this tell you about the impact resources can have on a schedule?

The estimated completion date generated from Part 1 was 250 days. After resource leveling, the estimated completion date has increased to 290 days. This show that adjusting resources has a...
