“The Big Chill in Carbon Trading”

Amid the recession, greenhouse gases aren’t the main focus of many businesses right now. There are emission caps set right now but contracts will end at the end of the month. The United Nations wants to try and establish a new contract but it is very difficult when many countries, especially those in the European Union, are struggling financially. Another article talked about how grim the outlook of the European Union looked so you can assume that they are not focused solely on gas emissions currently.

Companies are focusing not making back what they have lost over the last few years and if they are trying to get back into the carbon emissions game they are moving into it very slowly. Many people are leaving the field as they are either laid off from their current jobs or they don’t see any future in it. The caps on Carbon emissions are making it impossible for companies to keep plants open. As more and more plants are idled, the stock of carbon trading continues to decrease.

Even countries are dropping out of deals they have made that cap Carbon emissions. This is bad not only for the economy, but for the whole world in general. I think it is up to leaders at the highest levels to ensure there is a future in Carbon trading related work if they think it is something that is needed for this world.
