The Surfing Shoppe Lab, a division of the Banana Tree Travel Agency, would benefit from having a simple but effective star topology with a collapsed backbone. The most effective attributes of this topology are, it’s centralized, it’s scalable, and problems can be isolated not hindering the entire network while it is still a small company. Future expansions would maybe want to consider the parallel backbone, but for now, the collapsed setup provides centralized maintenance and troubleshooting.

By centralizing the computers they can be directly connected to a network hub. In the lab room, the other two computers are connected in a similar fashion without upsetting the layout of all the devices. Being able to utilize two rooms gives the lab enough space to strategically place all of their computers to accommodate the employees and their work areas effectively. Even though there are two rooms the connectivity can still remain the same. The network can be changed as the company grows. There is a strong case to create the best bang for the buck, but what people will fail to realize is that, companies that do very well do not stay small for long. There will be need to expand. That expansion needs to be accounted for.

The scalability is allowing this small lab to grow as the company grows. There are key components in...
