AND STORE MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS
USING
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
Managing inventory and other operations is crucial for gas station business. As the cost of the product increases, they become more critical to track and manage. The company I am managing is having inventory tracking and other reporting issues. The POS system is old and company does not have proper inventory database with prices programmed in the system. The company does not even have proper technology to monitor the critical items. This inventory management and old technology issues are costing the company in reduction of profitability and customer loyalty. The inventory shrinkage is not managed properly. Fuel product inventory is not recorded properly; hence company is having trouble being compliant with laws. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the existing problems of the company and to propose and implement suitable solution using information technology. The solution to the problem will be to implement back office system. This system will be connected to the POS system to automate most of the processes. This system will be able to generate the proper database to keep track of the business inventory. With proper inventory database, cashiers will be able to charge customers right price every time increasing profitability and customer satisfaction. The system will be connected to the vendors for accuracy of orders and update product prices automatically. For fuel inventory, the system will properly record the necessary reports to be compliant with laws. After researching and analyzing the benefits of different systems, I will recommend the suitable system and its implementation process in detail.
